VINYASA FLOW

Coordination of movement with breath through a series of asanas (postures) linked in movement dynamically. We move from one posture to the next with smooth and graceful transitions to optimize efforts, find focus and activate the blood flow and energy throughout the entire body.

ASHTANGA primary series

Traditional series of asanas with a progressive and fixed sequence, focusing on the coordination of breath and movement (Vinyasa), -inner- gaze (Drishti) and energetic locks (Bandhas), to optimize energy and effort. It can be a physically strenuous practice and it encourages discipline and concentration. Transmitted through the lineage of Sri K. Pattabhi Jois to westerners it is considered the asana part of the 8 limbs (Ashta= eight, anga= limbs) of Yoga described in Patanjali’s Yoga sutras.

YIN

In contrast with the more yang or active, strong and sweaty side of a Vinyasa flow or Ashtanga class, yin classes are all about letting go of the muscular effort to allow the connective tissues to find release and maintain their limited elasticity,  thus contributing to joint health. Postures are usually held for longer times (e.g. 3 to 10 minutes), which promotes relaxation of both our physical body and mind.

YOGA FOR ATHLETES

Competitive and endurance sports are an amazing discipline, but in some cases they can wear out the joints and strain muscles. In order to keep a healthy sports practice, Yoga can serve as a good cross training. It can help in maintaining strength and stability, as well as flexibility in major muscle groups and joints. This cultivates the ability of our body to bounce back and recover from great efforts. Yoga for Athletes can be incorporated as an active recovery day, a rest day with a Yin class or even as part of the training. In this manner, you can target specific muscle groups in a different way as with the regular training scheme. Recommended for triathletes, runners, surfers, climbers, bikers, hikers, swimmers etc.

YOGA IN THE WORKPLACE

Increase your productivity and concentration, improve your postural awareness and find tension and stress release by practicing Yoga at your workplace. Any of the classes described above can be chosen or accommodated to your group’s needs; if you have so much as a seminar or meeting room and at least half an hour to take a break from work, gather your colleagues and give me a call. I will come to you with all that you need for the class. Keep your employees healthy, focused and optimize their performance with a regular dose of Yoga!

ALIGNMENT WORKSHOPS

An important part of being able to dive inwards and use a Yoga practice as a moving meditation is to do it safely and consciously. The more we can teach our body to learn a progressive movement or posture in a way that suits our particular anatomical structure, the more it can become an instinct and our attention can shift towards deeper levels of awareness. For this purpose I like carrying out regular alignment workshops so we establish the foundations of a given pose, as well as tips and tricks to optimize efforts during your practice. We also go through modifications of asanas and vinyasas to accommodate everyone’s needs.
